NEW YORK / PARIS
Today we will meet at JFK International airport for our flight to Paris via wide-body aircraft arriving the next day. Meals served on board.
This morning we will arrive in Paris and meet our guide, before boarding our bus. After checking into your hotel, time to relax or perhaps explore this beautiful capital city. Our sightseeing tour includes views of the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Vendome Square, Tulleries Gardens, the Pantheon, the Louvre Museum and a guided tour of Notre Dame Cathedral.
Paris/ Beaune/ Lyon
We drive southwards today into Burgundy wine country, via its capital Dijon. We will visit the art museum, Palais Des Ducs. This afternoon we continue our scenic drive past the Cote d’Or vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-St. Georges to the medieval town of Beaune where we will visit Musee Du Vin Bourgogne. Proceed to Lyon for dinner and overnight.
Lyon/ Avignon/ Nice
This morning we begin our day with ascenic drive along the valley of the River Rhone to the Roman, ‘Pont du Gard’, before continuing to Avignon, where we see the Papal Palace and the famous bridge. Then we travel through the Provence of Van Gogh and Cezanne to the French Riviera and Nice.
Nice/ Monaco Excursion
We will have the whole day to enjoy the sophisticated holiday atmosphere of the Principality of Monaco. Perhaps laze on the beach or shop in the elegant boutiques. This evening, we enjoy French cuisine in a local restaurant before returning to our hotel in Nice for overnight.
Nice/ Nimes/ Carcassonne
This morning we drive through Cannes along the magnificent coast, en route to the city of Nimes, where we see the Roman arena, the Maison Carre and city gardens. This afternoon we proceed on through the Camargue, where we arrive at the walled city of Carcassonne for dinner in our hotel.
Carcassonne/ Toulouse/ Bordeaux
This morning we depart this magical city and wind our way through the Corbieres hills and magnificent ‘Cathar’ landscapes, to Toulouse and then through the county of Les Landes to the town of
Bordeaux. Our orientation tour here shows us the Esplanade des Quinconces and the banks of the Gironde. Then there’s time to explore in the old quarter before dinner in our hotel.
Bordeaux/ Perigueux/ Tours
This morning o ur first stop is St. Emilion famous for its red wine. Then through the Dordogne, via Bergerac to see the castle of Beynac, the fortress of Castelnaud and Josephine Baker’s chateau of Les Milandes. We continue via Les Eyzies, ‘the cradle of pre-history’ before arriving in Perigueux. Then we travel to Limoges, where we will see a demonstration of porcelain manufacture, before continuing on via the Loire Valley to Tours for dinner and overnight.
Tours/ Mont St Michel/ Caen
We begin our day traveling along the Loire Valley where we stop in Angers with its dominating castle. Then into Brittany, where we visit the island-town of Mont St. Michel, with its picturesque streets and imposing abbey. We proceed, along the Liberty Highway to St. Lo, and on to the D-Day Landing Beaches. We continue to our hotel in Caen for dinner and overnight stay.
Caen/ Bayeux/ Paris
This morning we visit the Bayeux Tapestry Museum with its scenes of the Battle of Hastings in the preserved 900 year old embroidery. Next we continue on to Giverny, to view from the outside the house and gardens of Claude Monet inspiration for his “water lily” paintings (closed for the winter). Continue on for a visit to the Versailles Palace and then on to our hotel in Paris for dinner and overnight.
This morning we say “Au revoir Paris” as we transfer to the airport for our return flight to America.
